David began his musical career at the age of 13 as a trombonist for Barnstaple Town Military Band and Bideford Town Brass Band. In 1987, he joined the Army and was posted to the Band of the Worcestershire and Sherwood Foresters Regiment. During his two years at the Royal Military School of Music, David took a change of course, studying flute and classical piano under Graham Mayger and Veronica Clayton respectively. It was while he was at Kneller Hall that David discovered his passion forwriting band arrangements.
After postings to Northern Ireland and Cyprus in the early nineties, David successfully passed an audition for the Life Guards Band of the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment. During a series of summer concerts with the Life Guards Band, David was persuaded by the Director of Music to take yet another musical change: he became the principal oboist of the Band, a position that he held until he left the army in 1998.

Join us for an unforgettable night of music, memory and magnificence as we join a cast of world-renowned perfomers to mark Remembrance Day at one of London’s most beautiful historic buildings, raising money for veterans' charity The Not Forgotten.
The Not Forgotten and national Freemasonry have joined forces to host a spectacular fundraising music event that will stay with you long after the final note.
Step inside the magnificent Grand Temple at Freemasons’ Hall in Central London for a Remembrance Concert bringing together top performers, powerful storytelling and over three centuries of service to our Armed Forces.
Performers include world-renowned tenor Russell Watson and BRIT-Award winning classical trio Blake, actress and singer Anita Harris, Strictly Come Dancing stars Kristina Rihanoff and Pasha Kovalev, celebrated organist Sir Andrew Parmley, and bringing the flavour of military music, The London Scottish Pipes and Drums and The Heroes Band.
Tickets for the event cost £75 each, and will raise vital funds for The Not Forgotten, a 106-year-old charity dedicated to supporting veterans and serving personnel living with injury, illness or isolation.
From the popular tunes of World War One and the iconic songs of World War Two ‘forces sweetheart’ Dame Very Lynn, to military band music, pipes and drums, and haunting performances from some of the UK’s top classical artists. The evening will conclude with a moving Act of Remembrance, followed by a rousing finale of Jerusalem and Land of Hope and Glory – union flags at the ready.
